Dragon Tiger Rules: One Card Each, and What Happens on a Tie
The game
One Card Each, Highest Wins
Dragon tiger strips baccarat down to a single card. The dealer turns one card face up for the Dragon and one for the Tiger, and the higher card wins. There are no third cards and no totals to add up, so a round is over in seconds.
The ranking
How the Cards Rank
- King is the highest card.
- Queen, jack and 10 down to 2 follow in order.
- Ace is the lowest card, not the highest.
- Suits make no difference to the Dragon and Tiger bets.
The tie
What a Tie Does to Your Stake
When both cards share a rank, the round is a tie. On the common rule set a bet on Dragon or Tiger then loses half its stake rather than all of it, and the other half comes back. Some studios settle ties differently, so the rules panel at the table is the version that applies.
A separate bet on the tie itself pays when the ranks match, commonly at 8 to 1. It sounds generous, but ties turn up rarely enough to make it by far the most expensive bet on the table — our live casino page puts a number on it.

Many dragon tiger tables add side bets on a single hand’s card, such as big or small, odd or even, or a particular suit. Their payouts, and the cards that lose them, vary between studios, so read the layout before you place one.
